We recently brought you a selection of photos from the Dudley West Midlands Metro extension which is scheduled to open in late 2024. That set of photos concentrated on much of the reserved section towards the Wednesbury end of the line and now we go closer to the end of phase one of this extension in Dudley to see some of the progress in that area. Andy Walters provides this set of images.<\/p>\n

The section into Dudley has been further advanced than that on the section we last featured with track having been down in places for some time. But now progress has been turning towards other pieces of infrastructure, including the construction of tramstops.<\/p>\n

Phase one of the line from Wednesbury to Flood Street, Dudley is due to be completed in time to allow trams to start running by the end of 2025 with a recruitment campaign already underway for the extra jobs this will create.<\/p>\n

This will be the stop at Dudley Castle\/Zoo looking up towards the ramp into Dudley. As can be seen here the tramstop is now at an advanced stage of construction with the far side seeing a substantial shelter in place.<\/p><\/div>\n

The same stop is seen here, although this time we look towards Wednesbury.<\/p><\/div>\n

The tramstop is also being constructed in Dudley Town Centre at the transport interchange. Again the shelters are in the process of being added.<\/p><\/div>\n

This photo is again in Dudley and shows more tramstop construction.<\/p><\/div>\n

This phase of the line will end in Flood Street, Dudley \u2013 until phase two to Merry Hill follows at some point in the future.
