{"id":55325,"date":"2024-09-16T22:00:41","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T21:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=55325"},"modified":"2024-09-12T21:15:50","modified_gmt":"2024-09-12T20:15:50","slug":"in-pictures-west-midlands-metro-dudley-extension-construction-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=55325","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: West Midlands Metro Dudley extension construction update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although we do now know that the West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley (which is supposed to phase one of an eventual extension which should at least get as far as Merry Hill and possibly Brierley Hill) has been delayed and the expected opening date will now be in 2025, there does still remain progress on the construction of the line as we see in this latest pictorial update with images from Chris Allsop-Buckler.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The complete line was due to be 11km long and would have seen 14 new stops join the network. It will leave the current line at Wednesbury and then travel via Tipton and Dudley which is where phase one will end. There will be nine stops on that first phase which will run as far as Flood Street in Dudley and then an additional four stops would have been provided beyond there to Merry Hill and maybe Brierley Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Phase one is now slated for opening in Autumn 2025 and works on the next phase are expected to start in earnest at around the same time as the final stages of the line to Dudley are completed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_55326\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1.horseley-cab.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55326\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-55326\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1.horseley-cab-550x367.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1.horseley-cab-550x367.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1.horseley-cab-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/1.horseley-cab.jpg 1296w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-55326\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Horseley Road will be the second new stop on the new line from Wednesbury (Great Bridge being the first). A lot of work which had been going on here now seems to have been completed with the new trackbed smoothed over and a retaining wall in place. The installation of track is awaited.
