{"id":55063,"date":"2024-08-28T18:00:25","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T17:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=55063"},"modified":"2024-08-27T19:48:34","modified_gmt":"2024-08-27T18:48:34","slug":"edinburgh-trams-send-team-to-compete-at-european-tram-driver-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=55063","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Trams send team to compete at European Tram Driver Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Edinburgh Trams will be sending a team of top tram drivers to the 11<sup>th<\/sup> European Tram Driver Championship where they will compete with the best in Europe on 14<sup>th<\/sup> September in the event which is taking place in Frankfurt.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Victoria Young and Michael Jakes will be joined by driver trainer Dougie White in competing at the prestigious event. They were selected after a rigorous selection process and they will be one of 25 teams from 20 countries vying for the title. One driver and one team will be crowned champions after tackling a 200m course comprising six challenges, including emergency brake precision.<\/p>\n<p>Dougie White said: \u201cWe\u2019re really excited at the prospect of representing Edinburgh Trams on a global stage.\u00a0Although the environment will obviously be very different from what we are used to, at the forefront of our training is recognising hazards and making sure of the safety of the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis requires high levels of concentration and skill, which will come in useful when we face some more unusual challenges as part of the competition, including hitting snooker cues and inflatable balls off the tram to score points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team has been working hard, and our training sessions have been going well.
