{"id":52955,"date":"2024-03-16T22:00:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-16T22:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=52955"},"modified":"2024-03-16T18:07:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-16T18:07:03","slug":"in-pictures-more-trams-receive-odas-equipment-as-testing-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=52955","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: More trams receive ODAS equipment as testing underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The project to fit the entire fleet of Blackpool Tramway Flexity2 trams with ODAS equipment is stepping up with <strong>006<\/strong> now having the cameras for this system fitted at both ends (previously it had only been treated at one end) and <strong>008<\/strong> also joining the ranks of those so fitted. Meanwhile, testing of drivers to use the system is taking place ahead of its full introduction.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As a quick reminder, ODAS is an obstacle detection system that should improve safety along Blackpool Promenade with it able to detect obstacles in the way and then bringing the tram to a gentle stop with the aim of stopping any serious collisions.<\/p>\n<p>A number of trams have already been fitted with the equipment (<strong>001<\/strong>, <strong>002<\/strong>, <strong>003<\/strong>, <strong>004<\/strong>, <strong>005<\/strong>, <strong>009<\/strong>, <strong>010<\/strong>, <strong>012<\/strong>, <strong>013<\/strong>, <strong>014<\/strong>, <strong>015<\/strong>, <strong>016<\/strong>, <strong>017<\/strong>) and you can now add <strong>006<\/strong> and <strong>008<\/strong> to this list after it received the cameras at its second end following on from their installation at the other end earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>008 entered service for the first time with the cameras on Friday 15<sup>th <\/sup>March.<\/p>\n<p>Of the trams not listed above <strong>007<\/strong> is reported to have the cameras fitted but hasn\u2019t yet returned to service after its incident with a Range Rover earlier this year. <strong>005<\/strong> is out of service at the moment and is wired but doesn\u2019t have cameras fitted and <strong>011<\/strong> and <strong>018<\/strong> have also yet to see the equipment installed.<\/p>\n<p>Training of the equipment is underway in earnest and recently a couple of trams have been out on the tramway training drivers.
