We continue \u201cAround the World in Trams\u201d and for January the stop on this world tour of photos will be Nuremberg in Germany.<\/p>\n

Nuremberg is in Bavaria, Germany and has had trams since 1881. Up until 1898 horse trams ran in the city with the first conversions to electric operation coming from 1896. Whilst the network remains in operation today, it hasn\u2019t been without its challenges and in the 1960s the decision had been taken to convert the whole network into a U-Bahn although this was, obviously, reversed (but some lines did get converted). Recent years have seen more changes to the network with further conversions to U-Bahn lines and there have also been further openings.<\/p>\n

The tramway has a varied fleet of trams, the most recent of which entered service at the end of 2022 \u2013 Siemens Avenio vehicles. There are also examples of trams built by Adtranz and Stadler (Variobahn, similar to those in Croydon) which operate services across the network.<\/p>\n

The tram seen in the below photo is one of the first batch of trams built by Adtranz, a GT6N numbered 1005<\/strong>. Built in 1995 the tram remains part of the operating fleet today. As we see in this image it was in an advertising livery at the time of this photo.<\/p>\n
