{"id":51750,"date":"2023-11-25T10:00:22","date_gmt":"2023-11-25T10:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=51750"},"modified":"2023-11-24T18:41:44","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T18:41:44","slug":"luas-tram-attacked-in-dublin-disturbances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=51750","title":{"rendered":"Luas tram attacked in Dublin disturbances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the Alstom Citadis trams which operate the service on Dublin\u2019s Luas tram network has become a casualty of the disturbances which took place in the city centre on the night of Thursday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> November. The disturbances happened after a multiple stabbing happened earlier the same day.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The identity of the tram is not known but it was vandalised and a fire was set light on board the tram. Luas have also confirmed that the overhead line was damaged as well. The tram was attacked on O\u2019Connell Street.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the riots a revised service has been introduced on Luas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Red Line: Tallaght\/Saggart to Smithfield only (no service Smithfield to Connolly\/The Point)<\/li>\n<li>Green Line: Brides Glen to St Stephen\u2019s Green only (no service St Stephen\u2019s Green to Broombridge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a statement released on 24<sup>th<\/sup> November Luas said: \u201cThe fire-damaged Luas is currently being tow pushed from\u00a0Upper O\u2019Connell Street. The Garda\u00ed and other agencies are assisting Luas\u00a0maintenance teams with this move. However, there is no power in the overhead\u00a0lines in this section, so the team is pushing it with another rail vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition to the tram tow push, the overhead power lines\u00a0in the Westmoreland \u2013 O\u2019 Connell Street area, which are currently powered off,\u00a0are significantly damaged and must be replaced. Work has commenced on replacing\u00a0the Lines. We anticipate the overhead lines may be operable later this evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the Lines and power are restored, the Luas Red and Green Lines will return\u00a0to regular service.
