{"id":50891,"date":"2023-09-02T18:00:01","date_gmt":"2023-09-02T17:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=50891"},"modified":"2023-09-01T19:17:02","modified_gmt":"2023-09-01T18:17:02","slug":"around-the-world-in-trams-sassi-superga-d2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=50891","title":{"rendered":"Around the World in Trams: Sassi-Superga D2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have one final photo from Turin in this week\u2019s \u201cAround the World in Trams\u201d but rather than the conventional tramway we feature a photo of the Sassi-Superga Tramway.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Originally opened in 1884, the Sassi-Superga Tramway is a rack tramway which operates on the 4ft 8 7\/8 inches gauge for 1.9 miles between the Turin suburb of Sassi to the Basilica of Superga. It rises to 672 metres above sea level with the upper station providing views of the city with a backdrop of the Alps. It runs on third rail electric and is single track except for a passing loop.
