Edinburgh Trams are celebrating their busiest ever month after more than 1.2 million journeys were recorded during the month of August. With the extension to Newhaven now firmly embedded into the city\u2019s public transport offering plus the Festival taking place along with rugby internationals at Murrayfield, more people than ever took advantage of the modern tram system to get around the area during the 31 days of August.<\/p>\n

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, was understandably delighted about the news: \u201cThis incredible milestone couldn\u2019t have been achieved at a better time, showing our tramway continues to go from strength to strength by offering a value-for-money travel option for our customers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe launch of services to Newhaven earlier this year has clearly been a major factor in the increasing popularity of the tram, and it\u2019s fantastic to see so many people using the Leith Walk and The Shore stops. This demonstrates how the trams are already helping local communities and businesses unlock their full potential by providing a reliable link between Edinburgh\u2019s most densely populated areas, the city centre, and beyond.<\/p>\n

During August extra trams have been laid on to cater for the rugby internationals at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium whilst all night trams have operated on Fridays and Saturdays during the Edinburgh Festival to get people back home and to their accommodation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
