For the next eight weeks we will be returning to our series which shows photos at each stop on a UK tramway and our next location for this is Edinburgh with what remains the newest open tram line across England and Scotland. Yes, it\u2019s the Trams to Newhaven extension and we start off at the terminus of that line \u2013 Newhaven.<\/p>\n

Located alongside Lindsay Road, Newhaven is the terminus of the Trams to Newhaven extension, located just short of 3 miles from the original terminus at York Place in the city centre. Whilst the majority of the extension features island platforms, Newhaven is one of two to have platforms either side of the tracks. Those platforms are a fairly standard affair with both including shelters, passenger information displays, ticket machines, validators and information boards. Beyond the platforms is space for the stabling of trams (likely to only be used when trams are blocked from returning to the depot) and there are also welfare facilities due to be provided (although still being worked on at the time of these photos). Trams can access either platform when arriving from the direction of the city centre with a crossover provided just before the stop is reached.<\/p>\n

253 has just used the crossover mentioned above as it arrives at Newhaven tramstop on a wet 30th June 2023. Taken from the opposite platform (under the shelter!) it is just passing the signal which controls departures and we also see one of the validators and the passenger information display in the foreground.<\/p><\/div>\n

In this second photo 255 sits at the stop between services. This image shows the full stop to good effect with all the standard furniture and other items you\u2019d expect from a modern tramstop.
