{"id":50386,"date":"2023-07-23T14:00:14","date_gmt":"2023-07-23T13:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=50386"},"modified":"2023-07-23T08:16:21","modified_gmt":"2023-07-23T07:16:21","slug":"timetable-of-events-for-volks-electric-railway-140th-anniversary-weekend-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=50386","title":{"rendered":"Timetable of events for Volk\u2019s Electric Railway 140th anniversary weekend announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As reported earlier this year, 2023 marks the 140<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Volk\u2019s Electric Railway and Brighton &amp; Hove Council and the Volk\u2019s Electric Railway Association have teamed up to run a special event to celebrate the occasion over the weekend of Saturday 12<sup>th<\/sup> and Sunday 13<sup>th<\/sup> August.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The railway first opened on 4<sup>th<\/sup> August 1883, the brainchild of Magnus Volk, and although over the years it has been regauged, extended, shortened and modernised it remains quintessentially the same line as it was 140 years ago with the oldest cars in the fleet dating back to 1892.
