\u201cStill Standing!\u201d returns to Dundee for this latest edition and this time we take a look at the former Maryfield Tram Depot.<\/p>\n

The tram system in Dundee had five depots during its history and one of these remains standing today \u2013 Maryfield Depot on Forfar Depot. Built for Dundee Corporation the depot opened in June 1901 and housed electric trams from the outset. It consisted of 6 roads and received an extension before after World War I. It remained in use for trams until 20th<\/sup> October 1956 when the system closed and it was subsequently used to house buses. It later transferred to the ownership of the water company but it was purchased by Dundee Transport Museum for \u00a31 with a view to restoring it to become the home of the museum. Currently significant fundraising is needed for this and the building remains on the Buildings at Risk Register Scotland although its hoped that work will be able to start in the short-term to turn into a museum.<\/p>\n

This is Maryfield Tram Depot building. It doesn\u2019t take you too long to work out that it was once an important transport building being in the style we see with so many existing buildings across the UK.<\/p><\/div>\n
