{"id":46924,"date":"2022-10-29T18:00:23","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T17:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=46924"},"modified":"2022-10-29T10:10:27","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T09:10:27","slug":"around-the-world-in-trams-vienna-4208","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=46924","title":{"rendered":"Around the World in Trams: Vienna 4208"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We make one last stop in Vienna for today\u2019s \u201cAround the World in Trams\u201d \u2013 and this time we head to the museum to see one of the trams sent to Europe from New York following World War II.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Vienna Transport Museum Remise (formerly Viennese Tram Museum until refurbishment in 2013\/4) is located in a former tram depot in Ludwig-Koessler Square. Telling the complete story of transport in Vienna it contains a number of tram related exhibits including the subject of today\u2019s article.<\/p>\n<p>This is <strong>Vienna 4208<\/strong> \u2013 ex-New York 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue. It was sent to Vienna as one of 42 in 1948 having been built in 1938\/9 and was fitted with a pantograph upon arrival in Austria. When in the US it operated on the conduit system and with trolley poles. Another one of the New York 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue cars which ended up in Vienna is on display at the Crich Tramway Village (displayed as <strong>New York 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Avenue 674<\/strong> it was numbered <strong>4225<\/strong> in Vienna).
