{"id":45906,"date":"2022-07-28T20:00:55","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T19:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=45906"},"modified":"2022-07-28T19:21:01","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T18:21:01","slug":"in-pictures-queens-baton-travels-on-west-midlands-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=45906","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: Queen\u2019s Baton travels on West Midlands Metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we reported earlier this week, the new West Midlands Metro extension along Broad Street has already welcomed its first special guests (not that normal passengers are anything but special of course) \u2013 with the Queen\u2019s Baton Relay taking a short ride along Broad Street on the evening of Wednesday 27<sup>th<\/sup> July.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Queen\u2019s Baton Relay has visited every single Commonwealth country and started in Cyprus back on 9<sup>th<\/sup> October 2021. It arrived in Jersey on 10<sup>th<\/sup> June 2022 before visiting Guernsey, Isle of Man, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and finally started a trip around England from 4<sup>th<\/sup> July. During the relay it will have covered 90,000 miles and over 7,500 Batonbearers have got to carry it within their local communities.<\/p>\n<p>With the Commonwealth Games starting on Thursday 28<sup>th<\/sup> July in Birmingham, the Baton was coming towards the end of its journey the previous day and that was then it took a short tram ride on the newly opened Birmingham Westside extension.
