Bromley Council have given their support towards extending the Docklands Light Railway to the town at a Council meeting following on from the Mayor of London Boris Johnson\u2019s commitment to the line in the Mayor\u2019s 2020 Vision. It is hoped that if funding can be found the line could open by 2022 providing a link to Canary Wharf where the working population is likely to double by 2025.<\/p>\n

A recent Transport for London pre-feasibility study said that the cost of the DLR extension would be \u00a3800 million. Although this sounds a lot Bromley Council are eager to point out it is just 5.4% of the costs of Crossrail and 2.4% of the cost of High Speed 2.<\/p>\n
Cllr Stephen Carr, Council Leader, said: \u201cWe call upon the Mayor to commit fully to\u00a0 securing the funding for this scheme as a matter of urgency.\u00a0 Such an extension is the priority of the borough, more important and significant than other option, it will bring greater opportunities for our borough and south east generally.\u00a0 Unlike many parts of the capital, south east London, and Bromley borough in particular, have not seen any new major infrastructure projects of this sort for many years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cllr Colin Smith, Executive Councillor for Environment, added: \u201cThis will bring major transport benefits to not just our borough or region but also to London as a whole.\u00a0 It will
\nreduce congestion at central London termini, relieve chronic pressure on the Jubilee line and address historic imbalances in London\u2019s public transport infrastructure.\u00a0 It will also support economic growth both locally and further afield too.\u00a0 We need to turn this vision into reality without the delays that notoriously dog infrastructure projects.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
