The Eccles line is to be closed on several occasions in 2022 to allow for rail replacement works to take place. The first closure will see no trams on the line for eight days during the February Half Term holidays \u2013 19th<\/sup> to 27th<\/sup> February \u2013 before further partial closures will follow during the Easter and Summer school holidays.<\/p>\n

Danny Vaughan, TfGM\u2019s Head of Metrolink, explains why the work is necessary: \u201cIn the past 10 years alone the Eccles line has supported 40 million journeys \u2013 providing a real alternative to using the car, helping people get around the region, reducing congestion and helping to cut air pollution. The Eccles Line, and the MediaCity spur, which was opened in 2010, have supported the local economy and been instrumental in the regeneration of the Quays area. It is therefore very important that we do these works now in order to help the area continue to grow and prosper. We know it\u2019s going to cause some inconvenience for passengers so we are limiting the work to less busy times. Many passengers will be able to catch trams on the Trafford Park Line, and we will provide good alternatives to those who can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

From Saturday 19th<\/sup> to Sunday 27th<\/sup> February there will be no trams on any section of the Eccles line. Trams from Ashton-under-Lyne which usually travel to Eccles will instead be diverted to run to Bury during this period. There will be a dedicated bus replacement service throughout this period.<\/p>\n
