Nottingham Express Transit have backed the city\u2019s new \u201cSafe Space\u201d initiative which has seen funding made available for a new safe space refuge area in the city centre where anyone, particularly women, can receive medical help and support if they find themselves in danger or at risk.<\/p>\n

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Caroline Henry, has secured over \u00a3250,000 of funding from the Home Office\u2019s Safety of Women at Night (SWaN) Fund to deliver practical solutions to reduce the vulnerability of women in the area.<\/p>\n
This has included The Safe Space which is run in partnership with first aid charity St John\u2019s Ambulance on selected weekends and was launched just before Christmas. Help has been sought for a variety of issues including alcohol intoxication, assault related injuries and help for pre-existing medical conditions.<\/p>\n
Julian Smedly, NET Operations Manager, explains more as to how NET are supporting the scheme: \u201cThe safety of our customers is always our top priority and we are delighted to support this initiative. We will do all we can to promote the safe spaces planned in this initiative and we are also working closely with partners to providing training for front line staff to help identify and support people who may be vulnerable. Regular police patrols on the tram network at night offer further reassurance for customers and we look forward to continuing to work with our partner organisations other organisations to help to make the city a safer place for women to enjoy a night out.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
