It is planned that the 205 acre site in West Edinburgh could have 7,000 new homes as well as commercial and community facilities constructed as part of a \u00a32 billion project.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To be known as West Town the proposed project is said to present the opportunity to meet the housing needs of the city whilst also delivering one of the most significant sustainable urban expansions Edinburgh has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>The Edinburgh Trams line between Gogarburn and Ingliston Park and Ride goes right through the proposed development site and during the original construction of the line groundworks were put in for a proposed tramstop here (then to be known as Civic Centre) so it shouldn\u2019t be too difficult to add it onto the network which by then will stretch all the way to Newhaven.<\/p>\n<p>No timescale for the building of the housing has been announced although it is being planned to meet the aims of the Edinburgh City Plan 2030.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_43270\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?attachment_id=43270\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-43270\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43270\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-43270\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/westtown-rb-550x365.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/westtown-rb-550x365.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/westtown-rb-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/westtown-rb-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/westtown-rb.jpg 1299w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-43270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This pre-opening image shows the groundworks in place for the proposed stop.
