A male teenager has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a tram close to Ashton Moss tramstop on the Ashton-under-Lyne line on Thursday 9th<\/sup> December. The incident happened shortly after 1700 with a large emergency services presence on the scene. Greater Manchester Police have appealed for witnesses into the incident as part of their ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n

Shortly after this incident, Manchester Metrolink released a statement urging anyone who travels on the network to take extra care (whether this was because of this incident \u2013 and the tragic incident at the start of the week \u2013 or had been pre-planned isn\u2019t known).<\/p>\n

Danny Vaughan, TfGM Head of Metrolink, said: \u201cWe are the largest light rail system in the country, running\u00a0through many urban areas and have some of the busiest stops of any network in Europe. Safety is at the centre of everything we do, but\u00a0accidents\u00a0can happen regardless of the safety features built into Metrolink.\u00a0I\u2019m appealing to all our passengers to take\u00a0that little bit of extra\u00a0care when using the network\u00a0at this busy time of the year, especially when out celebrating.\u201d<\/p>\n
