Edinburgh Gateway was designed to provide a smooth transition between the tram network and rail network with trains on the Fife Circle line and services out to Perth, Dundee and Inverness all calling at the railway station and allowing passengers to change to head to the Airport on the tram.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Passenger numbers at the tramstop \u2013 and railway station \u2013 have not met expectations with the construction having been described as a \u201cwhite elephant\u201d. Tram passengers numbers at the stop are not recorded but for the railway station in 2018\/9 just over 320,000 railway passengers were recorded as using the station \u2013 only a third of the originally expected numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that it remains in situ and also provides good pedestrian access towards the Gyle Centre with Gogar Tram Depot also being located close to the stop.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_42765\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?attachment_id=42765\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42765\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42765\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-42765\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/272-rc-550x413.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/272-rc-550x413.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/272-rc-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/272-rc-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/272-rc.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-42765\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On 30th November 2021 we take a look at the stop with the railway station seen on the left. 272 is just about to depart for York Place.
