As we\u2019re now in December everything is geared towards the countdown to Christmas and with Manchester open for Christmas this year Metrolink have launched a new \u201cOpen for Christmas\u201d campaign encouraging people to travel using the tram to enjoy days out with friends and family.<\/p>\n

A new website – http:\/\/christmas.tfgm.com\/<\/a> – has been launched which provides people with ideas for fun-packed days, exciting nights out and festive events. That could be a night out at Heaton Park for the Lightopia Festival (including heritage trams on the Heaton Park Tramway at weekends too!) or a food tour from Altrincham food market as well as visiting secret hideouts in the Northern Quarter.<\/p>\n After you\u2019ve chosen where you want to go the website will generate the best way to get there including advice on the nearest tram stop.<\/p>\n Of course, although Manchester is very much open this year there is still the ever present Coronavirus and as part of the campaign passengers are reminded that (unless you are exempt) that face coverings are mandatory on Metrolink (as they have been throughout). Various Covid measures remains in place including enhanced cleaning and people are encouraged to try and travel at quieter periods.<\/p>\n Danny Vaughan, TfGM\u2019s Head of Metrolink, said: \u201cOpen for Christmas\u00a0is a great way\u00a0to\u00a0make the most of the festive season\u00a0by travelling\u00a0with Metrolink\u00a0and supporting\u00a0local businesses\u00a0at the same time. I\u2019d also like to remind people that services will be busier during the festive season,\u202fso\u00a0remember to check\u00a0our website and across our social media channels\u00a0before you travel. Also\u00a0consider travelling at quieter times\u202fif you can and\u202fremember to\u00a0wear\u00a0a\u00a0face covering\u00a0when travelling, unless exempt.
