{"id":42410,"date":"2021-11-16T20:00:04","date_gmt":"2021-11-16T20:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=42410"},"modified":"2021-11-16T19:39:11","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T19:39:11","slug":"in-pictures-a-busy-day-on-edinburgh-trams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=42410","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: A busy day on Edinburgh Trams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When there is an event at Murrayfield Stadium \u2013 whether that be a rugby international or a concert \u2013 Edinburgh Trams really comes into its own and plays an even more vital role than it does usually as it transports crowds with a more intensive timetable in operation. One such occasion was on Saturday 13<sup>th<\/sup> November when 17 of the 27 strong fleet of CAF trams were noted in service.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An increased timetable with trams up to every three minutes in the lead up to and after the match against South Africa \u2013 which the visitors were the victors 30-15 \u2013 was in the operation and this saw 17 of the trams allocated to service during the day. The trams in use were <strong>252<\/strong>, <strong>254<\/strong>, <strong>255<\/strong>, <strong>256<\/strong>, <strong>257<\/strong>, <strong>258<\/strong>, <strong>262<\/strong>, <strong>265<\/strong>, <strong>267<\/strong>, <strong>268<\/strong>, <strong>270<\/strong>, <strong>271<\/strong>, <strong>272<\/strong>, <strong>273<\/strong>, <strong>274<\/strong>, <strong>275<\/strong> and <strong>276<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To aid passengers there were ticket sellers and tram marshalls at all city centre stops and the General Manager was even seen at Haymarket where there was a mobile ticket office on the Murrayfield bound platform. The board at the bottom of the cab shows the correct destination whereas the electronic display is incorrect. The tram has a Poppy in the cab for the Remembrance celebrations. The tall modern building is on the corner of Castle Street and replaced the Palace Hotel which was destroyed by fire in June 1991.
