Primary school children in years 4-6 will learn about the Metro system and help bring it to life by inventing new and fun ways to use it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Metro Invention Challenge is being run by Nexus and is part of the big Metro Takeover which is helping to celebrate the 40<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the network. Other aspects of the takeover involves major regional arts organisations including Sunderland Culture.<\/p>\n<p>Deborah Rodenby, Nexus Youth Liaison Officer, said: \u201cMetro is at the heart of the communities that it serves and we are delighted to be taking our Metro Takeover out into local schools.\u00a0This is a great opportunity for the pupils to come up with some creative and innovative designs. It might be a new feature to help our passengers or something that saves us when there are delays. It\u2019s one to get the thinking caps on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already do a great deal of work with local schools to promote railway safety and this will build upon that.\u00a0We are looking forward to seeing what the work that the children produce and the best ones will go on public display on the Metro system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pupils best ideas will be brought to life by graphic artists and exhibited for thousands of Metro passengers to see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local school children in the northeast are getting the chance to showcase their design work on the Tyne and Wear Metro system as part of a new competition to inspire a new generation of train designers.
