Anyone aged between 19 and 21 who travels on the Tyne and Wear Metro will now be able to get discounted travel following the launch of a new Pay As You Go product \u2013 Pop19-21. This card is aimed at students and all young people in that age bracket and will offer a 30% discount on every journey made.<\/p>\n

Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, explains: \u201cWe now offer free travel or great value smart card discounts on Metro from birth into your twenties.\u00a0We want young people to grow up with Metro as the clean, green way to travel for the rest of their lives and we have made it cheap and easy to do that. \u00a0Children travel free with an adult until they are 11, young people pay no more than \u00a31 until they are 18, and now benefit from a new 30% discount right up to age 21.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are always looking to provide the best possible value for our customers and this delivers that for many thousands of young people who live in Tyne and Wear and who use the Metro to get around.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe spoke extensively to students and young people before the pandemic about what kind of products made them more likely to travel on public transport. They said that they wanted value and flexibility, and the Pop 19-21 card offers that to them. They can benefit from a 30% discount on every Metro journey they make.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe introduction of this product coincides with universities and colleges returning and is ideal for anyone returning to higher education this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis builds on our already hugely popular take the kids for free offer as we seek to ensure that people right across the communities we serve have access to affordable travel.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 30% discount provided by the Pop19-21 card gives a reduction in an all zone daily ticket on a normal adult pay as you go card from \u00a34.85 to \u00a33.40.<\/p>\n
