Sometimes this may be for testing after repairs, mileage accumulation when they are new or possibly for driver training. On the right we see 102 which is on Driver Training \u2013 as seen with the destination display which includes a \u201cL\u201d in lieu of route colour. It is joined by 106 which is running on the Blue route with a service heading to Halfway.
