{"id":38872,"date":"2021-03-29T20:00:03","date_gmt":"2021-03-29T19:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38872"},"modified":"2021-03-29T18:20:14","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T17:20:14","slug":"metrolink-suspended-through-st-peters-square-after-protests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38872","title":{"rendered":"Metrolink suspended through St Peter\u2019s Square after protests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester Metrolink services had to be suspended for a time on Saturday 27<sup>th<\/sup> March after a group protesting against the Police and Crime Bill blocked the tram tracks. 18 protestors were arrested after being removed from the tracks at the end of what was described as a \u201clargely peaceful\u201d protest.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The majority of the protestors had left by 1600 but a few had remained in the St Peter\u2019s Square area which is when the tracks were blocked.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Sidebotham, Chief Superintendent at the Great Manchester Police, said: \u201cI understand the desire to peacefully protest but by blocking trams this smaller group prevented passengers from travelling to work for essential journeys, including health and care workers.
