{"id":38521,"date":"2021-03-03T20:00:04","date_gmt":"2021-03-03T20:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38521"},"modified":"2021-03-03T16:17:22","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T16:17:22","slug":"uktram-to-continue-working-with-governments-on-support-for-light-rail-in-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38521","title":{"rendered":"UKTram to continue working with government\u2019s on support for light rail in UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UKTram \u2013 who bring together all UK tram and light rail systems to give a \u201csingle voice\u201d when dealing with governments and statutory bodies \u2013 have pledged to continue working in partnership with the UK and Scottish Governments to secure additional support for systems as there starts to be a cautious lifting of Coronavirus restrictions over the comes months.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>UKTram has been at the forefront of discussions with both the Department for Transport and Transport Scotland throughout the pandemic to provide Ministers and other officials with valuable information on the impact of Covid-19 on the sector which has helped to ensure funding of \u00a3160 million for systems in England and \u00a321 million for those in Scotland (including the Glasgow Subway).<\/p>\n<p>Now with the roadmap to easing restrictions having been recently published these discussions have been continuing as for the current funding packages are only due to run until the end of March \u2013 when there will still be significant restrictions in place across both England and Scotland and fare revenue will still be severely reduced.<\/p>\n<p>George Lowder, Chair of UKTram, said: \u201cWhile the road map offers a steer that\u00a0will enable Operators to plan ahead, any significant return to pre-pandemic passenger numbers is still many months away and may never return to pre-COVID levels and patterns.
