In this edition of \u201cPicture in Time\u201d we are featuring another of the resident trams at Beamish.<\/p>\n

Originally acquired as a source of parts to aid the restoration of other more local trams, Oporto 196<\/strong> arrived in the northeast in 1989. After an initial inspection it was realised that the tram was in a good condition (it had been withdrawn in Portugal after a collision although the damage this caused was only relatively superficial) and a start was made on making it fully operational. It entered service in 1992 under the fake identity of Beamish Tramways 196<\/strong> with a coat of Gateshead paint applied. It subsequently, in 2012, receiving a repaint into the attractive South Shields livery which is how it can be seen today.<\/p>\n

On 5th<\/sup> May 2002, 196<\/strong> is seen at the Entrance. In the Gateshead livery and with the Beamish Tramways lettering the tram has since undergone a makeover. Gateshead 10<\/strong> can also be seen in this photo with both trolleys seen which makes it look as if 196<\/strong> has a strange double trolley setup!<\/p>\n
