{"id":38501,"date":"2021-03-05T18:00:13","date_gmt":"2021-03-05T18:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38501"},"modified":"2021-02-27T12:57:15","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T12:57:15","slug":"picture-in-time-oporto-196-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=38501","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Oporto 196"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this edition of \u201cPicture in Time\u201d we are featuring another of the resident trams at Beamish.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Originally acquired as a source of parts to aid the restoration of other more local trams, <strong>Oporto 196<\/strong> arrived in the northeast in 1989. After an initial inspection it was realised that the tram was in a good condition (it had been withdrawn in Portugal after a collision although the damage this caused was only relatively superficial) and a start was made on making it fully operational. It entered service in 1992 under the fake identity of <strong>Beamish Tramways 196<\/strong> with a coat of Gateshead paint applied. It subsequently, in 2012, receiving a repaint into the attractive South Shields livery which is how it can be seen today.<\/p>\n<p>On 5<sup>th<\/sup> May 2002, <strong>196<\/strong> is seen at the Entrance.
