{"id":37549,"date":"2021-02-12T18:00:58","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T18:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=37549"},"modified":"2021-02-07T09:15:48","modified_gmt":"2021-02-07T09:15:48","slug":"picture-in-time-newcastle-114-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=37549","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Newcastle 114"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our regular \u201cPicture in Time\u201d series looking at traditional trams not operating in Blackpool moves on to Beamish for the next few weeks and we start off with a tram which originated from nearby Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newcastle 114<\/strong> has been in service at Beamish since May 1996 following the completion of a lengthy restoration back to its original condition. <strong>114<\/strong> first entered service in Newcastle in 1901 and after various improvements and withdrawal in the northeast it was sold on to Sheffield for further use between 1941 and 1951 (renumbered as <strong>317<\/strong>). The remains of the tram were found in Scunthorpe and after an extensive restoration it returned to action in 1996.<\/p>\n<p>In this view \u2013 taken on 22<sup>nd<\/sup> June 2009 \u2013 we see <strong>114<\/strong> in the depot at Beamish.
