{"id":35275,"date":"2020-08-21T18:00:46","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T17:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=35275"},"modified":"2020-08-21T16:07:39","modified_gmt":"2020-08-21T15:07:39","slug":"picture-in-time-southampton-45","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=35275","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Southampton 45"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We make a second visit to Crich on 25th May 2011 for this edition of \u201cPicture in Time\u201d and this time we feature the tram which started it all \u2013 <strong>Southampton 45<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The diminutive <strong>Southampton 45<\/strong> was, of course, the very first tram preserved by what came to be known as the Tramway Museum Society when it was acquired following the closure of Southampton Corporation Tramways in 1948. Although currently out of service the tram has operated for many years at Crich and has always been popular with visitors with its unusual knifeboard seating on the top deck comparing and contrasting with other open toppers in the collection.<\/p>\n<p>This first photo shows <strong>45<\/strong> outside The Red Lion as passengers start to embark for a journey along the line.
