{"id":29050,"date":"2019-08-01T18:04:26","date_gmt":"2019-08-01T17:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=29050"},"modified":"2019-08-01T18:04:26","modified_gmt":"2019-08-01T17:04:26","slug":"picture-in-time-seaton-tramway-14-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=29050","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Seaton Tramway 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are again in Devon for this edition of Picture in Time as we feature an image of one of the converted standard gauge trams \u2013 no. <strong>14<\/strong> in the Seaton fleet.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Taken in 1980 this image shows <strong>14<\/strong> outside the Riverside Depot whilst still under restoration, a restoration which would take a further four years with entry into service not coming until 1984. <strong>14<\/strong> is in fact rebuilt from <strong>Metropolitan Electric Tramways 94<\/strong> (renumbered <strong>2455<\/strong> in the London Transport fleet) and has been rescued by enthusiasts all the way back in 1960 \u2013 some 25 years after it had been withdrawn from service. Eventually finding its way to Seaton the decision was made to covert the tram into a single decker with the middle section of the tram removed and either side reconnected to allow it to operate on the more narrow gauge.
