{"id":28423,"date":"2019-06-27T18:02:58","date_gmt":"2019-06-27T17:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=28423"},"modified":"2019-06-27T18:02:58","modified_gmt":"2019-06-27T17:02:58","slug":"picture-in-time-london-county-council-106-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=28423","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: London County Council 106"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this week\u2019s traditional tram Picture in Time we are once again at Crich as we take a look at an ever popular open topper, it is <strong>London County Council 106<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>106<\/strong> was built in 1903 and is a London County Council \u201cB\u201d class tram which was constructed by Dick Kerr as a double deck open topper. Although the tram did undergo a number of modifications over the years \u2013 including becoming an enclosed tramcar, excluding the open driver platforms. Upon withdrawal as a passenger car in 1925, <strong>106<\/strong> was converted to a snow plough which saw the top deck removed and it renumbered <strong>022<\/strong>. With the tram surviving until the end of tramway operation in the capital it was saved for preservation by the London Transport Executive and restoration got underway in 1971 with the work to return it to a fully functioning double decker was completed in 1983.
