As part of their complaint they undertook a protest by walking across a pedestrian crossing for an hour delaying traffic.

Elaine Moss, the protest organiser, said: “There were around 12 of us and we walked across the pedestrian crossing for five minutes, and then let a dozen or so cars through. We did it for an hour to raise the profile. There has been enough disruption around here and people have had enough. What they are trying to do with the track is an absolute joke and it will be a pain for people who live here. This will add a mile to people’s journeys because they can’t turn across it and will cost people extra time and money. It’s an absolute joke.”

In response Philip Purdy, TfGM Metrolink Director, said: “I appreciate that people have concerns about some aspects of the project and I would encourage them to work with us and help us deliver the project in the most effective way we can. Bringing Metrolink to Tameside is a major undertaking but it is something that will have a very positive impact for generations.”

A final decision on the plans is due to be taken by Tameside Council on Wednesday 21st December with another protest likely before then.

Following on from last week’s story where residents in Wythenshawe complained about a Metrolink construction compound more local residents on a proposed route have now been up in arms, this time in Audenshaw.
