That has now changed though as 251 – which was previously in a promotional livery for Decide to Glide #tramspotting – has now returned to service as the 18th and final C R Smith advert.

This theme of the advert on 251 is from Cumbernauld to St Fillans. Cumbernauld is in Lanarkshire and was designated a New Town in 1955 whilst St Fillans is a village at the eastern end of Loch Earn in Perthshire. The statue on the right of the image is the “Mirror Man” which is found in Loch Earn and was returned to this location in January of this year after a spell away.

Of note is that fleet numbers have been applied to this tram in a new position above the cab window. Whether this is a one off or will be continued in the future remains to be seen but hopefully it may make identification of trams a little bit easier!

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Trams have also confirmed that they will once again be using a tram to promote the Royal Highland Show, which takes place at the Royal Highland Centre close to Ingliston Park and Ride from 21st to 24th June. An “eyecatching” vinyl wrap will be applied to a tram and it trams will run up to every 3 minutes throughout the event.

251 shows off its new advert at Ingliston Park and Ride tramstop on its way to York Place on 29th April 2018.

A close-up of the unique bodyside vinyl on 251 (Photographs x2 by John Hampton)

A view of 251 at St Andrew Square heading for the Airport on 1st May 2018.

The section of the advert we don’t often feature with the full height vinyl for C R Smith.
