Douglas Borough Council have revealed that passenger numbers of the Horse Tramway\u00a0 have fallen by 5% in 2012 with 53,318 passengers carried during the season which ended in September. This is the first fall seen in passenger numbers for four years.<\/p>\n

It is not all doom and gloom for the tramway though as September saw a 22% increase in
\npassenger numbers with 6,820 passengers carried on board the trams.<\/p>\n
Part of the reason for the overall decrease is because in 2011 the operating season was extended by a week for the Commonwealth Youth Games with the weather during the summer this year also said to be a factor.<\/p>\n
Plans currently exist for the tracks to be moved as part of a major reconstruction of Douglas Promenade but confirmation of when and how this happen has not yet been
