{"id":20538,"date":"2018-02-06T19:25:42","date_gmt":"2018-02-06T19:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=20538"},"modified":"2018-03-14T19:51:32","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T19:51:32","slug":"around-the-world-in-trams-kirnitzschtal-2-with-trailer-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=20538","title":{"rendered":"Around the World in Trams: Kirnitzschtal 2 with trailer 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We resume our world tour of trams with a trip to Germany where we take a look at the Kirnitzschtalbahn which is in the Saxony region.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This system is a 8.1km line which runs from Bad Schandau \u2013 on the River Elbe above Dresden and just short of the Czech border \u2013 to Lichtenhainer Wasserfal. The track is metre gauge and single with one passing loop next to the depot. It is mainly a tourist route \u2013 the only tramway to serve a National Park in Germany \u2013 and uses historical trams to operate the service.<\/p>\n<p>This view shows <strong>2<\/strong> and trailer <strong>22<\/strong> at the Bad Schandau terminus before departing for Lichtenhainer Wasserfal. <strong>2<\/strong> was built in 1957\/8 by Gotha and was originally used on the Plauen system before being acquired by this line in 1992 whilst the trailer is from Leipzig and dates from 1963 \u2013 again built by Gotha.
