{"id":18360,"date":"2017-08-24T19:11:12","date_gmt":"2017-08-24T18:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=18360"},"modified":"2021-02-13T18:54:39","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T18:54:39","slug":"picture-in-time-blackpool-centenary-648","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=18360","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Blackpool Centenary 648"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are in Blackpool for today\u2019s edition of Picture in Time as we feature <strong>Centenary Car 648<\/strong> whilst it was carrying an all over advert for Orion Bingo in 2004.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Originally built as <strong>651<\/strong> the tram was conceived as a GEC test tram and was the second of the trams \u2013 following on from <strong>641<\/strong> \u2013 to arrive and enter service in Blackpool. After the testing was completed it received standard equipment and was renumbered <strong>648<\/strong> becoming part of the eight strong Centenary Car class of trams. By the time these photos were taken in 2004, <strong>648<\/strong> was on its fourth all over advert, with this design being for Orion Bingo using an orange base colour (a colour Orion Bingo were familiar with on their tram sponsorship). The tram was to retain this livery until it was withdrawn for service the following year for overhaul \u2013 an overhaul, which unlike its seven sisters, was to see it retain more of its original shape with a view to its future preservation (a preservation which would end up being in Blackpool after all!)<\/p>\n<p>Photo number one shows <strong>648<\/strong> at Little Bispham working with a full crew through to Pleasure Beach on 15th September 2004.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?attachment_id=38223\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-38223\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-38223\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.648-gp-550x386.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.648-gp-550x386.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.648-gp-1024x718.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.648-gp-768x539.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/1.648-gp.jpg 1128w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a>And then on 18<sup>th<\/sup> September 2004 we see <strong>648<\/strong> again as it approaches Gynn Square.
