It is the summer of 1971 for this edition of Picture in Time as we head to a quarry in Derbyshire which is, of course, home to the National Tramway Museum or as it is known today the Crich Tramway Village.<\/p>\n

Two trams feature in this image with Leeds 600<\/strong> and Glasgow 812<\/strong> prominent in this shot although you can also make out the Leeds two-cab Tower Wagon no. 2<\/strong> in the background as well. What is most apparent from this image is how much more development there has been in the past 45 years at Crich as it has became more of an attraction.<\/p>\n

This is a fairly rare shot of 600<\/strong> in service as 1971 was one of just three years where it ran in service at Crich (also being used in 1969 and 1972) and it is one of the trams which has never had any significant attention in the workshops at Crich. Today the tram can be found at the off site store at Clay Cross where it has been since 2005. 600 may be a rare sight in service but Glasgow 812<\/strong> has been one of the workhorses in Derbyshire with it first having operated in 1966, however it is currently on the \u201cout of service\u201d list having last been seen running at the end of 2015.<\/p>\n
