Although it has been a lengthy process to get to this stage it has now been announced that the Edinburgh Trams Inquiry public hearings will start in September with this stage likely to take several months. The hearings will take place on three days a week \u2013 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday \u2013 from Tuesday 5th September.<\/p>\n
Evidence will be given at the hearings by a \u201cnumber of specified witnesses who will be cited to appear\u201d. There will also be a chance for the Inquiry\u2019s Core Participants to undertake limited cross examination of these witnesses, subject to Lord Hardie\u2019s, chair of the Inquiry, permission.<\/p>\n
Lord Hardie commented: \u201cToday\u2019s announcement marks a milestone in the Inquiry\u2019s on-going progress. The oral hearings form an essential part of the important work of the Inquiry and the evidence heard will play a crucial role in informing my final recommendations. In advance of these hearings, a significant amount of activity has already taken place including identifying, retrieving and reviewing more than six million documents and the on-going gathering of statements from a significant number of witnesses. The hearings are just one of a number of steps the Inquiry is taking to provide robust recommendations to ensure future major tram and light rail infrastructure projects of a similar nature to the Edinburgh Trams avoid the problems this project experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hearings will be open to the public (although seating capacity is limited to 50) and they will take place at the Inquiry\u2019s offices at Waverley Gate, 2-4 Waterloo Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3EG.<\/p>\n
