{"id":15792,"date":"2016-11-19T22:36:38","date_gmt":"2016-11-19T21:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=15792"},"modified":"2016-11-19T22:36:38","modified_gmt":"2016-11-19T21:36:38","slug":"picture-in-time-manchester-metrolink-1004-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=15792","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Manchester Metrolink 1004"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this edition of Picture in Time we head back to 1992 and the newly opened Manchester Metrolink system for a duo of images of T68 <strong>1004<\/strong>, a tram which arrived in the UK on 27th November 1991.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>1004<\/strong> has already featured in the Picture in Time series so we don\u2019t need to go through its entire history again but the tram entered service on day one of operation on 6th April 1992 before becoming the second of the class to be withdrawn from service on 16th May 2012. It has since been scrapped having left Manchester on 25th April 2014 for Booths in Rotherham.<\/p>\n<p>Our first image shows <strong>1004<\/strong> as it passes through a location which today is the home to Shudehill tramstop and bus station but on 27th April 1992 was still very much undeveloped. Indeed take a look at Manchester in this view 24 years ago and it is a very different place showing how much progress has been made.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?attachment_id=15793\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15793\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15793\" title=\"1.1004-rog\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.1004-rog-550x366.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"366\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.1004-rog-550x366.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.1004-rog-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/1.1004-rog.jpg 1259w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a>In the second photo we head further back into the city centre as <strong>1004<\/strong> heads off to G-Mex \u2013 at this stage the terminus of the line towards Altrincham which wasn\u2019t to open until June.
