The trial overnight parking scheme at selected Manchester Metrolink stops could now be made permanent following the success of the trial period with 84% of respondents to a survey in favour. The trial started in December 2015 with passengers able to leave their cars at 15 tram stops on Friday and Saturday nights provided they were collected by 12pm the next day.<\/p>\n
Initially conceived for the festive period the trial was extended and is currently ongoing to 31st July. The TfGM Committee are due to meet next week where they will discuss the potential for making overnight weekend parking a permanent fixture. They will be reviewing a report that recommends that 2,500 overnight parking spaces are made available (77% of parking spots available).<\/p>\n
The stops where overnight parking would be available would be Brooklands, Stretford, Navigation Road, Bury, Crumpsall, Prestwich, Radcliffe, Whitefield, East Didsbury, Ladywell, Hollinwood, Oldham Mumps, Rochdale Railway Station, Derker and Shaw & Crompton. It isn\u2019t possible for all parking spaces on the network to be made available due to limited space and land arrangements.<\/p>\n
Cllr Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: \u201cWe\u2019ve been really pleased to have been able to offer this trial to Metrolink customers. The take-up has been good and the response from the people we spoke to about the scheme has been very positive.
