It has been reported that Transport for London have exercised an option to order a further two Stadler Variobahn\u2019s for the Tramlink network \u2013 bringing the total number of this type of tram to 12. The news was confirmed as part of the TfL 2016-17 budget recently presented to the London Assembly alongside other enhancements for the Tramlink network.<\/p>\n
When the budget was originally unveiled it made mention that new trams would start to arrive in Croydon from March 2017 but no further details were mentioned but the latest information released has now confirmed that these extra trams will once again be Stadlers with two set to be delivered. These two extra vehicles are part of an option announced previously.<\/p>\n
As we reported at the time the budget went public also mentioned are plans for capacity enhancements on the Elmers End branch with double tracking and a second platform envisaged (design work is to be completed on this) whilst it is planned that service to New Addington will be increased from eight to 10 trams an hour by 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
