After several disruptive strikes on Dublin\u2019s Luas tram system the action has been suspended \u2013 just ahead of the planned strike on St Patrick\u2019s Day. It has been reported that staff from three out of four grades have accepted pay offers reached following lengthy talks.<\/p>\n
It has been reported at different times that workers were demanding pay increases of between 40% and 53% which had been described by operator Transdev as unsustainable. But after overnight talks involving the Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union (Siptu) agreement was reached over a 18.7% incremental pay rise over 33 months \u2013 not exactly the 53% which had been demanded but still probably a lot better than most people can expect over the next three years.<\/p>\n
Drivers are to be balloted next week and if they accept the deal they will get a 2% rise straightway followed by another 2% rise in January 2017. There will then be 3% increases in January 2018 and January 2019.<\/p>\n
Also involved in the strike action were Revenue Protection Officers and Revenue Protection Supervisors who will get pay increases of 14.7% over 33 months. Traffic Supervisors were also on strike and they still walked out on St Patrick\u2019s Day as no deal had been reached.
