{"id":12142,"date":"2015-08-14T20:17:20","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T19:17:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=12142"},"modified":"2015-08-14T20:17:21","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T19:17:21","slug":"picture-in-time-blackpool-balloon-714","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=12142","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Blackpool Balloon 714"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our latest Picture in Time subject is a tram which has never featured on these pages before; well at least not in this form \u2013 <strong>Blackpool Balloon 714<\/strong>, now know as<strong> Jubilee 762<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>714<\/strong> was delivered to Blackpool as <strong>251<\/strong> in December 1934 and was soon pressed into service as the second of the enclosed Balloons. Retaining double indicators throughout its operating career and always running with a trolley <strong>714<\/strong> was to be one of two Balloons to be withdrawn in October 1971 (along with <strong>725<\/strong>). Both of these trams were destined to never run again as traditional Balloons but the success of the OMO project led to a reprieve for both when they were converted to Jubilee Cars. <strong>725<\/strong> was first to be rebuilt and then using experience learnt from the operation of that tram <strong>714<\/strong> followed returning to service as <strong>762<\/strong> in May 1982.<\/p>\n<p>This photo was taken on 3rd June 1972 \u2013 8 months after withdrawal \u2013 and shows 714 at the top of one of the roads of Rigby Road Depot.
