{"id":10722,"date":"2015-03-24T16:35:01","date_gmt":"2015-03-24T16:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=10722"},"modified":"2015-03-24T16:35:01","modified_gmt":"2015-03-24T16:35:01","slug":"picture-in-time-sheffield-189","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=10722","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Sheffield 189"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another Sheffield tram which has survived as part of the national collection is no. <strong>189<\/strong> but it has been 35 years since this tram last carried passengers and it awaits funding and a space in the workshops before it can be considered for a return to service.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>Sheffield 189<\/strong> entered service during 1934 and was part of a batch of Standard cars constructed in the Sheffield Corporation Tramways workshops between 1933 and 1935. The tram remained in service until 1958 when it was withdrawn following a special enthusiasts tour after it had been selected for preservation (originally no. <strong>195<\/strong> was to be preserved but 189 was discovered to be in a better condition). <strong>189<\/strong> was resurrected for the final tram procession in 1960 and was transported to Crich soon after (in fact it was the need to find a home for the TMS\u2019 increasing collection that led to the discovery of Crich). Entering service at Crich in 1966 <strong>189<\/strong> saw three periods of operation up until 1980 when it was withdrawn from service and retired to the depots waiting workshop attention.
