{"id":10330,"date":"2015-02-13T15:44:02","date_gmt":"2015-02-13T15:44:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=10330"},"modified":"2015-02-13T15:44:02","modified_gmt":"2015-02-13T15:44:02","slug":"picture-in-time-blackpool-coronation-642","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=10330","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Blackpool Coronation 642"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We head back to Blackpool for our latest \u201cPicture in Time\u201d image and this time our time machine ends up in August 1968 with a view of one of the immensely popular Coronation Cars \u2013 no. <strong>642<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The second of the VAMBAC operated tramcars to enter service in Blackpool, <strong>642<\/strong>, or <strong>305<\/strong> as it was at the time, first carried passengers at the end of July 1952 and retained the VAMBAC equipment until it was withdrawn from service in 1970. After withdrawal the end was not long in coming with a date with the scrapman during May 1971 ending a life of less than 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>Our photo shows <strong>642<\/strong> between North Pier and the Tower in August 1968 \u2013 the year that it received its new number. The tram features the half green\/half cream livery with interesting orange trolley tower.
