BURY LINE ON TRACK FOR 13TH SEPTEMBER OPENING
Manchester Metrolink – Tuesday 11th September 2007

The work on the Bury Metrolink line is on schedule and it will be reopening to the public on Thursday 13th September, following six long weeks of bus replacement on services serving stations along this section.

The work has been part of a £100 million package of improvements which will also include extra trams, stop upgrades and ticket machines. Nearly 20 miles of track has been replaced by Carillion on both the Bury and Altrincham lines over the last few weeks and the platform surfaces have also been upgraded to make it easier to get on and off the trams.

Michael Renshaw, GMPTE’s Interim Service Director, said: “Work on the Altrincham line finished at the end of August and I’m pleased that the Bury line will also reopen on time. Some of the track we’ve replaced was more than 50 years old and I’m sure passengers will notice the difference the new track makes. Tram journeys on the Bury line will now be much smoother, quieter and more reliable. We will continue to discount weekly, four-weekly and quarterly tickets bought on or before 15 September. That means that passengers who buy a quarterly ticket could benefit from cheaper travel on Metrolink until mid-December.”

After six long weeks of complete closure the Bury line will be re-opening to Metrolink services as from Thursday 13th September. In this view we have 1003 at the Bury terminus of the line on 7th September 2005.
