EARL TO BE AXED IN FAVOUR OF TRAM CONNECTION
Trams for Edinburgh – Tuesday 25th September 2007

The Transport Scotland government agency looks set to advised Transport Minister, Stewart Stevenson, that the controversial Edinburgh Airport Rail Link should be axed – in favour of a connecting tram line from a proposed station at Gogar.

The Scotsman report that Transport Scotland are suggesting passengers get off at the new station at Gogar and transfer to the already approved tram line. It is likely that a tram stop would also be provided here – which is close to the site of the depot with passengers having a simple change. It would also be possible for passengers to get onto the tram for the airport at the already opened Edinburgh Park station.

It is expected that Mr Stevenson will make an announcement at Holyrood this Thursday (27th September), and is likely to face opposition from other MSPs over the axing of the EARL.
