HOW DO TRAM HORSES RELAX? GO FOR A SWIM OF COURSE! Stevie the Douglas tram horse has been off injured recently with an abscess in his hoof. In order to improve his health – and to get him back into operation for next season – he has been having a swim in the sea to help cure the problem
Jon Ward, tram horse stable worker, said: “'He has an abscess and the vet recommended going on the beach and in the sea because the salt is good for it. It helps to clean it up and harden their feet. Most of them enjoy going in – if they didn't like it they wouldn't go. Stevie would stay down there for ages. It's quite relaxing for them.”
Stevie is one of a fleet of 33 horses who provide the horse power so to speak for the tramway, but because of this abscess he has missed the whole season.
