It has been confirmed that the Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway will close in its entirety from 5th November until Easter 2008 (Good Friday is 21st March). This is to enable significant track work to take place and involves the stretch between Manchester Square and Central Pier and as such no trams can get out to play.
The following sections are to see work:
* Pleasure Beach loop (southern spur removed)
* Track replacement Manchester Square to Central Pier (including removal of Manchester Square crossover and new crossover at Foxhall Square and junction to Princess Street)
* Removal of Gynn Square crossover and removal of loop line at Cabin (crossover to be renewed)
* Cabin to Bispham and Bispham to Norbreck sections to be relaid
* Little Bispham loop to be renewed with the removal of spur
* Replacement of Fleetwood (Copse Road) sub station
In addition to this work a map on the Blackpool Transport website suggests work may also be undertaken at Starr Gate (Fleetwood is also mentioned on the map but presumably this is to do with the substation and not the track).
Throughout the winter a special Line 1 bus service will run in place of the trams at similar frequencies. This bus is also to remain as an all year feature between Fleetwood and Starr Gate.
Winter 2007/8 trackwork will see the loop line at Cabin removed and a simplified layout - with crossover - in its place. This view is supposed to show the current Cabin layout looking north with the centre track used to stable specials terminating here. Presumably the far track (the northbound one) will be the one to be removed.
