CONSERVATIVES URGED TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT AT CONFERENCE
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Sunday 16th September 2007

Politicians attending the forthcoming Conservative Party Conference in Blackpool at the end of this month are being urged to use the resorts trams and buses, as the green agenda of leader David Cameron is pursued.

1,000 of the 10,000 delegates are been issued with complimentary passes for use on all Blackpool Transport services whilst the remainder will be able to apply for a special four day pass at a discounted price of £7.

Michael Jack, Conservative MP for Fylde, commented: “I welcome Blackpool Transport's generosity. It is only one week out of 52, but it may give people the taste of what a true low carbon transport system can look like. As a low carbon economy this is an effort towards changing what happens on the other 51 weeks. Blackpool is the vanguard of the green movement. So far it has been fighting a lonely battle in protecting its tram services but it may encourage other authorities to become supporters."
